2022 DHMF Scholarship Recipient - Noah Takac
We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has contributed to the foundation. Because of all your generosity, our family had the opportunity to award the first ever Davis Heller Memorial Foundation scholarship of $5,000 during Davis’ celebration of life service this week.
Following Davis’ passing, we shared with NGU Head Coach Landon Powell our interest in developing a Foundation to give scholarship awards to athletes, specifically baseball players. It was important to our family for this scholarship to go to a student athlete who embodied Davis’ spirit - someone who is a great teammate and gives 100% every day both on the field and to those around him. We selected the NGU program for the first scholarship to be awarded for the spring semester because of their commitment to Davis and for recognizing that players and teammates with the hard work, dedication, and mindset Davis had have the ability to impact a program on and off the field.
Noah Takac, a senior pitcher for the North Greenville Crusaders, was chosen by Coach Landon to be the first recipient because of his dedication to living and loving like Davis both on and off the field. Noah was a teammate of Davis’ this summer for the Macon Bacon and was the first to introduce Davis to the NGU program. During Davis’ recruiting process to NGU, Noah told Landon “no matter if Davis Heller ever played for us or was ever a starter or if he ever even stepped in the batters box, our program would eternally be better for it.” Reflecting back on this conversation in August, Noah shared how right he was as the NGU program has been forever changed by the impact Davis made on them in just two short months.
As we reflect on their time together this summer and fall, it is clear that Davis was exactly where God intended for him to be and Noah was someone who was placed in Davis’ life for a reason.
